My studio at Fort Maarsseveen and the book 'Uit beton gegoten' (cast out of concrete) about the Type P group shelters of the Holland fortress (final editing Hendrik Dijk and Rob Hoekstra) were an inspiration for me to come to this group of sculptures. The tough, robust shapes, that once had a function that we know little about today. They are remnants of the past that have survived for more than 80 years.
I didn't imitate shapes, but tried to capture the atmosphere. Partly rough, standing firmly, with a niche here and there. The suggestion of an unknown history.
